Ranthambore is one of the best places in India to see a tiger in the wild, and the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway has made it a realistic weekend. It is a stretch in two days, so a Friday night departure or a long weekend makes it much more relaxed.
Take the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway south past Dausa, exit towards Lalsot, and continue on the state highway to Sawai Madhopur. It is much faster than the older route via Jaipur. By train, several services on the Delhi–Mumbai line stop at Sawai Madhopur Junction in about 4 to 6 hours. An overnight train on Friday gives you a full Saturday.
Lodges and resorts line Ranthambore Road between Sawai Madhopur and the park gate, from budget guesthouses to high-end jungle resorts. Staying on this road keeps your safari pickups quick. Sawai Madhopur town has cheaper hotels if the crew is on a tight budget.
Ranthambore is about 380 km from Delhi, a 5 to 6 hour drive via the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and Lalsot. Trains to Sawai Madhopur take about 4 to 6 hours.
Yes. Arrive by Saturday noon for an afternoon safari and take a second safari on Sunday morning. Leaving on Friday night makes it more relaxed.
Book on the official Rajasthan forest department portal as soon as your dates are fixed. Choose a gypsy (6 seats) or a canter (about 20 seats).
The park is open from October to June. April to June is hot but often best for sightings, as animals gather near water. Core zones close roughly July to September.
